Holland, MI at a Glance
A Michigan city settled by
Dutch immigrants in 1847, Holland is steeped in Dutch history and charm. Travel
back in time to the Netherlands of the 1800s at Dutch
Village Theme Park, where traditional Klompen dancers, authentic Dutch architecture,
old-fashioned rides and scenic gardens round out a bona fide Dutch experience.
May is the best time to visit, as the city's atmosphere is enhanced with millions
of tulips that bloom throughout the parks and neighborhoods, an advent that
is celebrated each year at the renowned Tulip
Time Festival. Live entertainment, arts and crafts fairs, parades, trolley
tours, fireworks and, of course, exceptional floral displays are some of the
treats this event has in store. The spring tulip gardens are a major draw to
Windmill
Island, an attraction that boasts an operating windmill from the 18th century,
a replica of a 14th-century Netherlands inn, and organ concerts from May through
October.
